A Guide to Manchester's best Happy Hours
By Anna GledsonGet there in time and you're laughing. Miss it by five minutes and it'll haunt you for the rest of the evening. Perhaps that's why we've all become remarkably good at remembering exactly when they start. Manchester makes it worth knowing. These are some of our favourites.
Nell’s
Nell’s could probably get away with a much worse happy hour.
As if we needed another excuse to go.
Get to Nell’s before 4pm and you’re too early for happy hour. Shame. You’ll have to settle for two slices and a drink for £9.99 instead. Then the margaritas drop to £6.66 and selected pints start from £4.50. You’d have to really try to get the timing wrong.
The margaritas are properly good too. Keep things classic or go for the chilli honey and pineapple if you fancy something a little less sensible. We’d recommend the latter.
Their pizzas have plenty more going for them than sheer size. The bases are thin, crisp and charred underneath, while the look on neighbouring tables’ faces when they arrive truly will never get old. Neither does having one sat in the middle of the table while another round of margaritas appears around it.
It’s every bit as much a social destination as it is a pizzeria. You weren’t planning on tackling 22 inches by yourself, were you?
Crazy Pedro’s
An hour was never going to be enough for Crazy Pedro’s.
Five it is, then. That’s how long Crazy Pedro’s thinks an hour lasts, which tells you quite a lot about the venue.
From 5pm until 10pm, Sunday to Friday, two cocktails are £14, slices are £3.50 and whole pizzas are £13.50. At that price, committing to one pizza would almost be missing the point.
Fried chicken, bacon, waffle and maple syrup on one. Salt and pepper chicken, chips and curry sauce on another. Then there’s goat’s cheese, red onion marmalade, pesto and Beef Monster Munch. This is exactly the sort of behaviour we’ve come to expect from Crazy Peds.
A £15 bottle of wine with your Beef Monster Munch pizza? Now we’re talking.
It closes at 4am, by the way. Make of that what you will.
The Blues Kitchen
The Blues Kitchen likes to keep you on your toes with their happy hour.
Tuesday means £6 margaritas and half-price top shelf tequila. On Wednesday, every cocktail on the menu drops to £6. Then Friday brings those rather lovely £6 cocktails back for another couple of hours.
It’s the whole cocktail menu that gets us. That’s almost too much choice.
Not that The Blues Kitchen needed cheap cocktails to get us through the door. The live music has been doing a pretty good job of that for years.
Cocktail in hand, band on stage, dance floor right there. Where exactly were you planning on going next?
